Calais Refugee Solidarity Bristol is an organisation run entirely by volunteers. It was established on 19th August 2015 at a small meeting of just seven people with the modest aim of delivering a convoy of much needed items to refugees in Calais. Over the following weeks, support snowballed and we were astonished by the overwhelming generosity of the people of Bristol. Suddenly, our van-load of donations had turned into 20 tonnes of items, our storage facility had expanded into five collection points & two warehouse spaces, and our small team of coordinators had grown into a whole army of energetic and passionate volunteers.
As an organisation, we have coordinated the collection of donations in Bristol, arranged delivery of this aid to refugees in Calais, sent nearly 70 volunteers to help in ‘The Jungle’ and continued to raise awareness and funds for this cause. Calais Refugee Solidarity Bristol aims to raise funds, raise awareness and raise the living standards of refugees in Calais as well as campaigning for the rights of refugees and their safe passage through Europe. No person should be without access to basic human rights, and together, we can make this a reality for those in Calais’ camps.
